Research Services

GANS was formed in the early 1980s, and built as an organization to help genealogists. There was a demand in the early years for collectibles and research materials and, eventually, a research library where people could do their own research. As the organization developed, we started providing  support services to researchers, certifying Nova Scotia ancestries, and conducting large-scale research projects.

The Research Library, our Education Programs, and the our array of Genealogical Datasets constitute our core services.  We think we are increasingly achieving an excellence in each of these areas.

Our arena for innovation, however, is our Research Services.  Our aspiration is to continue building a cluster of research talent and resources here as a "Genealogical Laboratory".

This group handles the problems presented by Research Queries, the online experiments with the new HRM Cemetery Project, the out-at-the-edge A. F. Church Mapping Project, and the assessment rigour of the N.S. Ancestors Certificate.
