Honorary Lifetime Membership
Occasionally, someone comes along in Nova Scotia who provides such an important service to genealogy that we have recognized them with an award for that service, whether it was with GANS or not.  As of June, 2024, there have been 16 persons who have been recognized for distinguished service as  Honorary Life Members.

Annual Volunteer-of-the-Year Award
This award was established in 2022.  At present, it is awarded annually at our Annual Heritage Lecture & Dinner.  The awards have been given to Nancy Bowie (2022), Neal Cody and Nathaniel Smith (2023), and Pamela Wile (2024).

The Susan Hill Writing Prize
The  Annual Writing Competition is aimed at recognizing unpublished genealogical essays about Nova Scotia. Susan Ann Hill (1959-2014) was an avid genealogical enthusiast who conducted her research in Cumberland County for nearly 30 years and inspired many Nova Scotian genealogists.
