Spring Virtual Conference
GANS organized its first Annual Spring Conference, the "2023 Nova Scotia Genealogy Virtual Conference", with 12 speakers back-to-back, over a two-day weekend. It was a smorgasbord of lectures, and was widely acclaimed as a tremendous success. Lecture recordings are available to members with a link below.
The "2024 Nova Scotia Genealogy Virtual Conference" ran on the weekend of May 4 & 5, 2024, with another great lineup of speakers. Each speaker was recorded, and the recordings were available to registrants for 60 days following the conference, and are available to members with a link below.
The "2025 Nova Scotia Genealogy Virtual Conference" was delivered on May 3 & 4, 2025. It was jam-packed with 18 speakers over the two days. All of the speakers were video-recorded. The recordings are eventually available for GANS members, but are embargoed for a year.
Plans are well advanced for the 2026 Conference, planned for Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3, 2026. Keep watch for coming announcements.
The Annual Spring Conference is organized by two GANS volunteers:
- Neal Cody is a Nova Scotian boy and a transcription specialist. He has written numerous articles for our research journal, "The Nova Scotian Genealogist", and is leading a transcription team on a set of small and rare, but highly valuable, datasets. He has been active in genealogy for more than ten years.
- Nathaniel Smith, C.G. (C) has been researching his family history for over 20 years. He obtained the designation of Certified Genealogist (Canada) from the Genealogical Institute of the Maritimes in 2014 and is currently the organization's Registrar. Nathaniel is most well known in Nova Scotia for his award-winning one-place study The Prospect Genealogical Website which showcases the history, genealogy and stories of the people who lived in and around Prospect, Halifax Co., Nova Scotia.
